Apply for SCS Youth National Setting Crew Now!
April 26th, 2007Filed in USAC
Kynan Waggoner, USAC Chief setter is looking for a few great setters for this year’s SCS Youth National Championships in Anne Arbor, MI. If you’re interested in setting for the biggest route comp in the country and you think your skills are up to it, then check the info Kynan sent to Routesetter.com.
The available positions:
- Assistant Routesetter (5 positions)
- Apprentice Routesetter (2 positions)
- Routesetter Internship (2 positions)
- Speed Routesetter (1 position)
The schedule
All routesetters (with the exception of Speed Routesetter) will be expected to work from Monday, July 2nd through Sunday, July 8th. Kynan says: “I am not gonna lie, the hours are long, the work is demanding, and the compensation is not nearly enough to justify the work involved.”
Kynan also says:
“For those of you who have never worked with me personally or at big USAC events (youth or adult nationals or youth divisionals), don’t even bother applying for anything other than an Internship Position. You may set the sickest routes in the Western Hemisphere, but you need to pay your dues the same way that I did and PROVE that you set the sickest routes in the Western Hemisphere. There is a continuum to how the routesetter positions are selected and earned, and everybody starts at the bottom.”

The essay
In addition, all applicants will need to submit a document of no more than 200 words that details:
1. Why do you want to participate in this event?
2. Why would you be an asset to this team?
All applications are due by 8pm MST May 7th, 2007. After all votes from appropriate parties have been tallied, the selections will be announced on May 14th, 2007.
You can download the appropriate applications from the USAC website. You can also find more information about the USAC setting certification program on their new setting page.
For questions regarding this position please contact scs@usaclimbing.org.
Thanks and good luck!
