The grand opening of the Momentum gym in Sandy, Utah was a huge success. This facility sets a new standard for climbing gyms across the country. It boasts 20,000 SF of roped climbing surface and another 4000 dedicated to bouldering, making it one of the largest gyms to date. Along with climbing they offer yoga, a weight room, locker rooms, café, children areas and daycare.

One of momentums most valuable assets is there dedicated and highly trained professional staff. All of this makes for a wonderful climbing experience. Jason Kehl and myself flew out to Salt Lake City to take part in Momentum’s grand opening. We had an action packed agenda that included, media appearances, poster signings, slideshows and working the So iLL/blurr/Cryptochild booth.

The gym sets a new standard for other climbing venues across the country as well.  It was a clean, professional and a friendly environment. Momentum isn’t tucked into one of these dark, dingy industrial courts, but rather a visible storefront on commercial real estate. The gym shares a building with REI along with the neighboring mall.

Kehl, The Mayor, Chancellor The Mayor of Sandy kicked off Momentum’s grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony. We were lucky enough to have our photo taken with the Mayor. He seems like a nice guy who cared enough to show up. I think he looks a bit like the monopoly man but that’s just me.

The grand opening coincided with SCS regional youth competition and was a huge success! It was awesome seeing kids and parents from all over the country sharing the love of climbing. There were over 75 competitors and roughly 100+ spectators. I had a great conversation with a mom who commented that the “soccer mom” is a dying bread. Parents (of children who climb) are trading in the mini van for plane tickets and hotel rooms.

The event was amazing for us! By having the So ill/Cryptochild/blurr booth we gained great visibility and engagement with our target audience. The kids flocked to us checking out new product lines, posters, banners, autographs and more. We were able to meet the kids and parents and make a verbal connection. Since the comp was a regional event it accounted for at least 6 different states represented including Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, California, Wisconsin.
