Oceania CupThe Australian federation (SCA) is reporting that they have enlisted the services of Donato Lella, Assistant Director of IFSC Route Setting, to hold an international route setting course prior to the Oceania Cup Championships in Sydney.

Both events will be held at Australia’s largest gym, the Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym.  The course will be held from Sept 30 to Oct 3rd, and the student setters will then be assessed during the Cup (Oct. 5th – 7th) for their ability to set at an international level.

There are currently no IFSC certified Oceania region setters, so the course will provide a rare opportunity for setters to gain international aspirant level certification. Setters from other countries are encouraged and welcome to attend. There is a fee for the course with “subsidized” payment options available.

The Oceania Cup is the premier competition for Australian, New Zealand and Tasmanian climbers. The winner of the Cup will be decided based on team points. The Australia team is the reigning Cup holder.

The event is actually three events, which include the Oceania Championships, Australian Open Championships and the Australian Youth Speed Championships.

With so many different categories from Masters (which in this case means 35 – 45+ years old) to youth D (8 & under) the setters will have their work cut out for them.
