Remember that just because you like certain moves, it doesn't mean that they're AWESOME.

This is another way of stating the old saw that, "sometimes your babies are actually monkeys," which is a version of "sometimes you have to kill your babies," which all boils down to the fact that you've got be able to handle constructive criticism. It's easy to fall in love with things we create. When we're creating for other folks, not setting on home woodies, we've got to be open to their opinions.

The question being "what is the number one rule of routesetting?"
...I'd say...

# 1. Make it safe
# 1. Make it fun
# 2. everything else

Now if the question were "what is the number one rule of routesetting for competitions?" than I'd have to add one more number one.

# 1. Make it safe
# 1. Make it fair (Louies answer)
# 1. Make it fun
# 2. everything else

Although as much as I hate fixing stripped t-nuts/holds... I might have to slide CLs answer "don't strip the t-nuts" into both of those lists at # 1.5.

You've got to set to please your customers. Not necessarily their egos, but the customer should get some satisfaction from your route. When they (our adoring- often hating, public) get bored, our jobs become obsolete.
