I recently set a route made up primarily of e-grips hueco flakes, though it also includes three old straight-up crimps and a couple of other smaller e-grips shapes. Customers have been psyched on it, and I'm thinking that it's because of the lack of a giant sloper feature that is the bane of so many a gym climber.

If you're starting a 12-step program, I may as well say this:

My name is Louie, and I am also a crimp-a-holic.

I wish I could say that made me feel better, but I'm sure I'll still gravitate toward the little holds.

Oh well, at least I know I'm not alone.

Great idea for an article Mike.

And thanks for the nice comments guys. If you think the 2XL Krease is nice, just wait until they mold the bigger ones. The 5XL is one of the coolest big shapes I've ever done.

Just getting going on some cool new sets for a couple of companies. Trying to do some new things, so I hope they work out as well as I'm envisioning...

I'd also like to applaud Contact (especially Dale's shaping) on making a nice "price point" set of crimps. As we all get caught up in Feature Fever, it's nice to see someone focusing on the small stuff as well. This set looks to have turned out very nice and will provide those who buy it with an instant boulder problem.

Hope everyone has a great Christmas (regardless of what you end up getting.

The "exact" copy of the Vex crimp was shaped from raw foam. It just so happens that Dale is a human CNC machine.

This is Chris, the e-Grips and So iLL Climbing Wall Rep.

e-Grips has indeed been lacking in getting their website updated - sorry to all who've been eager to see new holds. I have been working hard to get those things updated but there has been a long, unfortunate delay.

Rest assured, a new website coordinator is working hard to get all new hold sets now available up on the site (THERE ARE 15 sets! that only First Dibs customers will ever have seen before).

If anyone is really psyched to see new sets asap, or is specifically interested in the Armordillo - please send me an email at cdanielson@gthi.com or call me up at 585.750.5062 and I'll send you pics of other sets or put an order in for you.

On another note - I would suggest the Hueco Wonder Hole as a moderately sized Hueco that has a very good grab for roof climbing. It's not huge but a very good price.

From other brands - you might check out Climb It's Huecos, shaped by Louie Anderson - all very cool, and of course the Jason Kehl's Wisdom Toothe from So iLL functions much like a giant hueco.
