Setters Wanted! USA Youth Nationals
April 14th, 2008Filed in USAC
USAC is calling all setters! If you have ever wanted to be a National setter than here is your chance.
The 2008 SCS Youth Nationals is happening this July at Planet Granite in Sunnyvale, California. Molly Beard, Chief for the event is looking to fill her team with experienced and psyched setters. She’s looking for assistants, apprentices and the relatively new position of intern.
Just like last year, the Youth National setting crew application process is open to all who can, and think they can, set for the big show. Even though there are a few qualifications you must posses, it will take more than just a good attitude to get on this crew.
Assistant setters should be experienced national setters holding a level 3 (national) routesetting certificate. These setters are paid for the entire show with travel and hotel also paid for. There are only 5 slots open to assistants so apply early and send in your best resume.
Apprentice setters are expected to show up to the event ready to forerun 5.13 and must
have a level 2 (Regional) cert. Apprentices are paid quite a bit less than Assistants but at least one will get a travel stipend of $200 plus lodging will be paid for. All of that equals to a lot of work with not much pay. Whatever, after the event Apprentices will go home with a National cert and a bucketful of comp knowledge.
Bringing up the rear of the crew is the intern position. The internship program started at the 2006 drama filled ABS Nationals and the interns saw it all at that event. This years SCS Youth Nationals will hopefully be much tamer but no less interesting.
The two Intern positions will be filled by setters that have a Level 2 cert and they have to be able to comfortably work 5.12a. Like most internships this position is not paid and Interns will have to pay for themselves to get to the event. (Hint: Ask your gym to help foot the bill.)
Even though that sounds like a raw deal over half of all Intern are asked back to join future National events.
Curious setters can find more info by going to the usacsetting.net website. There you’ll find all the applications you’ll need. Applications are due by May 2nd. So get on it!
