Why so negative, gabor? The whole point of this article is to expose US routesetters to this style of movement, and give specific tips to force it. I'm sorry but very few US setters are at an elite level where they would travel to international comps, yet we still want to learn about how to set cool movement. If you want US setters to learn these sorts of things, why post in an instructional article as such a downer?

have you guys seen a worldcup?? good article and all, but this type of move is not very original or so creative. in europe, quite common. would be nice if US routesetters went to some of these events to gain some perspective.....

Thanks for another great article Chris! I love these videos, and I think this sort of training is invaluable for everyone, especially those who aren't lucky enough to have had/be getting training on routesetting theory from experienced setters. Keep it up!

Thanks all... this was a fun one. Dale - those crimps are indeed fantastic - there is a route that goes right up beyond this problem in the gym with many of them. Now, if someone can set and climb a campus lock-through or toe-hook on those, that would be a whole different kind of spectacular...

Dale, don't bother as they aren't worth even the low price being charged for them.

Just kidding. Both the VEX and REX holds are worth having and very well-priced.

Nice write up Chris. Turning and climbing feet first through a roof is always fun and a great challenge. I haven't seen many of these types of problems lately. I'm hoping they'll start to pop back up.

Having seen this problem being set, and then Chris climbing on it, and then seeing a variety of climbers on it, I was able to better appreciate the subtleties involved in it.

Nice write up Chris. I've gotten my first foot on the side of the flake, but have yet to get the foot match. Very close though - thanks for the challenge!

And to the poster above, if you and your gym users don't have any campus skills (or maybe just the confidence to use them), I would challenge you to set some campus-specific movement to introduce the style to them. Start up somewhat easy and once the comfort level is there step it up a bit.

Sweet. Thanks Chris. I'd love to set something like this, but limited terrain might make it impossible. Food for thought, though.

Also, I think it's just a quirk of our membership, but basically no one can or will campus in my gym (including me). Odd.
