Great essay Kyle! You and I have had this conversation numerous times and it is so great to see your ideas put forth in a literary medium. Sometimes I think sequences just 'work.' As climbers, we are pretty resourceful and innovative people, and as setters, sometimes we get lost in trying to force a sequence because we are in love with it; which will then obviously feel forced. When we put our trust in that climber resourcefulness it allows the climber to figure out a sequence which may not feel so forced and thus deemed a great problem because it 'just flowed'. Once again, great article and I look forward to reading more from Kyle.

I've definately had those moments. I think they happen more often on Nicros A.R.T. Walls. I think a bigger surprise comes when you envision something crazy that you think would never work, try it anyway, and it actually does work. But that could just be me cause I'm still learning.

I've been there, sometimes it's worth it to make both routes. After all it's only tape, there can be another color and the first couple moves can be similar or even the same...big deal.

Well written, very good style.
