Lead World Cup Finishes in Kranj
Sunday, November 25th, 2007
On November 17th – 18th the last Lead World Cup of 2007 was held in Kranj with the last chance for competitors to prove themselves on the world stage.
Kranj is one of the oldest World Cup events in the world. Only Arco and Serre Chevalier have been holding comps longer. With its first comp in 1990, Kranj is still a major stop on the circuit today.
If the Brno bouldering WC was about separating the Women, Kranj was about breaking up the Men. Even though super Spaniards Ramon Julian and Patxi Usobiaga placed a weak 26th and 18th places respectively in Kranj, they came away with the overall gold and silver with only 3.89 measly points between them.
But never to be counted out is the Czech hero Thomas Mrazak who was on a roll after placing 1st in Kazo, Japan last month. Mrazek finished up with a bronze medal to tote home for both the event and the overall rankings.

Kranj gold went to Cedric Lachat (SUI), three holds better than Flavio Crespi (ITA). Lachat finished sixth overall.
The top Women going into the event were all separated by at least 100 points in the overall, and the setters had no problem keeping them that way. Slovenian wonder girl, Maja Vidmar, cruised to a Kranj win and thus the overall gold. Her teammates were no slouches either with Luka Franco coming in third in Kranj and Natalija Gros with a Kranj 9th & 4th overall.
The Setters
Chief Setter Simon Wandeler kept up the momentum of his success in Valence, France and ended the season on a high note for the World Cup series. He was helped by very strong team of Slovenian setters, which included:
