This is a carabiner used only onece by a 10 year old kid for a cradle. The kid puts a tpae over a pull up bar in the door frame, clips the carabiner to the tape and to his harness swais alittle bit and finds it's self on the floor.

His mother brought the carabiner to my gym /she is not a climber/ and asked if this is normal ... !!!

From Petzl told us that the reason for that is misuse of the carabiner .. The kid wait is about 30 kg /60 lbs./ how can he brake a new top brand carabiner used for cradle ? The little guy is a good climber for his age and knows how to clip a draw /he can lead/

The only logical conclusion that I can draw for the limited narrative and photos is that the spirit was cross loaded with the gate open. If the load pulls on the open gate laterally, there is a possibility for it to slip around the nose.

I would like to see a picture of the hinge close up.

I make this conclusion based on:
-No signs of visible trama (scratches on the anodized coating)
-No visible deformation of the overall shape

No, this is not "normal." When it comes to analyzing carabiner failure, it is very hard to be definitive as to the cause without detailed first hand accounts and photos/videos of the entire system used.

The scratches on the coating are there because we tried to force the gate to it's normal position. The strange thing is that the gate is not deformed in any way and in my opinion it should be. The main thing is if this is misuse of the gear or failiure.

Guys this looks bad. How do you know if your draw is a fake ? You make a 20 meter fall and check if you are alive !????

Double check with all retailers about where their shipment came from. Or call Petzl and ask it the place you plan on buying from is actually one of their distributors.

It is not the same link. It is an oficial statement on Petzl web site. It wasn't there before.

So it is official now. There are fake petzl things on the market be carefull what you are using !!!

try to find out where the karabiner was bought.
Also contact Petzl with that serial number and see if they have any info on it.

The carabiner was bought from the oficial dealer in the country. So you can say goodbuy to the idea that if you buy from the dealer it is fine and there are some bad guys who sell fake petzl.

Personaly I think that petzl messed up something in there China production and now are tring to blame the dealers. I think that because I know personaly the petzl guys here and they do not sell fake things !
