I'm still finding my way around here, but I love the new diggs. I do miss all the info from the old forum though, there was plenty to search thru. is there a way to access it or will it be imported to this one?
access the archives?

I know the old essays and such are there, I was curious about the old forum posts - maybe I missed them?

As far as I can tell the old forum posts are either lost or archived and unaccessible to most of us. Maybe the forum-meisters can help?!?

Can anyone confirm that the old forum content (not the old articles) is, in fact, gone? My hope is running out and I would like to lay it quietly to rest before it becomes embarrassing in its old age.
I certainly cannot find the content on any web archiving services but I don't want to believe that everything has been lost to the void without being certain.
If the sad possibility is true, how would everyone feel about reviving some of the greats? I have at least two that I distinctly remember and wish that I could read again and again.
1. In a thread about what makes a route "good" Molly left an incredibly articulate and insightful reply that I wish I could hand to new setters on day one of training.
2. In a thread about what one would look for in an applicant to a setting position so many excellent points were raised that I wish I'd pasted together a handbook. And I'm willing to bet that everyone has at least one old favorite they wish they had copied somewhere long ago.
what do you say? (or even better, can we get them back online?)

I have backups of everything! ;-)
If the Admin doesn't, and it's ok for me to do so...
I can put it online.(now if I can only remember which hard drive it's on)

Here is the deal. We switched to the new forum format because we were running old software that allowed a crazy amount of spam to get through our very weak filters. Now we have a robust and modern forum (maybe not state-of-the-art) with no span.
The down side is that we could not figure out how to keep the old forum information. That information was tied to the software that ran the forum. So instead of just deleting all that good content we saved the files in the hopes that one day we would be able to publish that information back to our readers.
However as of right now, we no longer have the software or the ability to post those files in a readable format.
If someone has a good idea about how to get these files on the site email me and we can figure it out.
Hope every one is still enjoying the new forum!
Thanks,
MikePosted 2 years ago # -
Mike,
The new forum is great. Apologies if I implied otherwise.
Do you know what format your old data is in and what format the new software allows?
Worst case scenario you can probably work out a way to just put it up as archived material that is not in the same forum format.

same thought from my side, what format are they in?
chances are one of my code monkeys from work can work something outworst case, if it's just the old article with no comments does anyone care?

@Jason
maybe on the format, but it really depends upon how the information is stored. It might be a resurrect a "fake" forum offline and then a copy paste to new posts tagged as achieve (and tagging it) to something far more time consuming@Mike
if you can still see the posts on the old forum, just copy paste and tag it as archive, but under the same title it was posted as. It means we get some "spam" for a while but it's user generated spam (if that makes sense) and no one should complain about that if it's tagged and they know that old stuff if coming back onlinePosted 2 years ago # -
I've been writing database import and migration scripts for years professionally. I also have specific experience writing plugins and what not for WP but not BBpress specifically. I might be able to help. It would be great for all that content to be available again.
Perhaps the new forum could have an "Archive" section like the "General" or "Setting" sections with all the old posts. The only thing that would be a little tricky writing import scripts is dealing with old usernames vs new usernames.
So how to deal with that? Maybe old usernames could have "archive" prefixed to the username so that they don't clash with current usernames. Or if we think it's safe we could try and pair the old usernames with the new ones so that our old posts still show under our new usernames.
dunno though....I changed my username personally from RJ to Arjay. Not sure how many people made changes like that.

I think most of us changed our names. I changed mine from fivesix to Donovan Craig Because people respect a person more than they do nickname!
It makes sense on this forum because we are a fairly close knit group, so I have no trouble with people asking me questions and better yet trying to see things from my perspective even if they dont agree.
I very much appreciate all the respect all of you have towards this forum!
Cheers

I am not giving up on this.
Mike... Vincent... anyone? We clearly have people willing to do the work, all we need is the data.
