I have been looking into painting my old woody for a while now and I have experimented with some non textured paint however everything that I have used so far attracts rubber from climbing shoes. Does anyone know of a good non textured paint that I could use that does not show shoe rubber?

What I am looking for is a paint that prevents shoe rubber from adhearing to the surface of the plywood more than just a color but thanks for the suggestion buddy.

Sorry man. Saw the opportunity and had to roll with it.
As for a real answer, I don't know. I've yet to find anything myself. God knows our gym could use a fresh coat of rubber free paint.

Iono if this is possible.. or optimal for a climbing wall. For painted walls to leave no rubber scuff marks means that the rubber on the shoe isn't doing its job. Also, if there is such a paint, it means its properties has very little apply-able friction in between shoe and wall, which could prove to be frustrating to climbers (smearing becomes much harder). It may just be one of those things where there's nothing you can do but put on a fresh coat of paint and/or re-texture your walls every once in a while.

When I built my woodie I used polyurethane over a natural stain. It makes the wall feel like the slick side of a dual-tex hold. It doesn't attract shoe rubber and doesn't leave a mark. I'm not sure if you can apply the same product with paint underneath it, though.
