Actually Psychedelia is the most expensive comp to run and to attend in the annual 4-comp Spot Bouldering Series. $35/compete, $15/spectate, all spectators and competitors get fed, beered (or soda-ed or watered), one free raffle ticket, and free participation or spectating of whatever special events we are running. For example, at Psychedelia, besides the generally unique atmosphere of the gym, we had a pro DJ (Dirtmonkey--hope you like dubstep!), fire dancers, a trapeze act, a costume contest that was open to all, tacos, Avery beer, other drinks, free Mix 1 (protein drink thing), a pro finals to spectate (one problem/gender, top 6 men and women, always a good time), and 41 new boulder problems--several of which included special features. Spot comp pricing varies by comp and can be lowered by buying a season or multi-comp package that will also come with a season t-shirt. All comps run in two sessions, youth in the morning and adult in the afternoon, and spectating the youth comp is free but spectating the adult comp costs a little $. Youth competitors can spectate the adult session for free.
The next comp, Highlines and Highballs (highline slackline contest + food, music, pro finals, huge raffle) will be $30 to compete and $10 to spectate.
The first comp of the season, The Gun Show, was an ABS comp so it was $30 for non-ABS members or $25 for ABS members (b/c of $5 ABS comp non-member per-competitor fee) or $10 to spectate. It included a bbq, beer, music, a huge raffle, pro finals, a pull-up contest, and the youth team hired a dunk tank that we dunked the pros in as a fundraiser--http://spotsettingblog.wordpress.com/2011/09/28/the-gun-show-2011-photos-run-down-results-hurray/)
The last comp of the season, the Gladiator Final, will include gladiator jousting for all interested parties as well as the standard accoutrements at Spot events of food, music, beverages, pro finals, and tons of schwag/raffle.
That might be TMI but basically we try to give a lot for the money.
