Hi!

I will be setting a lead comp in a few weeks on a 40 foot wall with some overhang.
Last year I rented a Scissor lift, but this year i'm thinking about an articulated lift.
Here are my up and downs ...

The scissor lift takes a lot of maneuvering to get position along the overhang

The Scissor lift has a huge platform that enables me to take lots of holds, 2 or 3 guys, allowing striping and setting at the same time

whats your thought on this and your experience

( I also have another dilemma, I don't have lots of money to spend on holds, but I wanted to buy some new stuff, if it was a boulder comp I would have no problem in choosing stuff, but on a lead one and only being able to buy around $300, I really don't know what to choose, from what's available in Europe... I already have almost all EP, freestone, and top30. but wanted to bring some fresh new stuff.)

One word - Teknik. Their edges and mini jugs are great to set with for route comps. As for the scissor lift, I have set from one before and it is pretty sweet. I think that the boom lift might make things a bit quicker as you should still be able to take a good number of holds up with you and you can maneuver a lot easier. Not sure if there is a price difference in the rental.

The price of the lift is no issue, just trying to figure out which one better suits the job.
we are forced to strip and set(re-set) from women to men in a few minutes, so the best thing is to do both things at once.

I had already thought about them and tried to contact the Teknik europe rep (http://www.ouvreboite.eu/) but still no answer.

So I think the scissor lift might end up being best for the job for you. It will allow you to hold several people and lots of holds. I was looking at a boom lift today and they are great for reaching over stuff (like padding), but if that isn't an issue, then both have to be driven and maneuvered somewhat.

Hey Fred,
i just sent you an email concerning the holds, sorry i was away in Berlin for a few days for a comp.
Concerning the lifts i have a general preference for scissor lifts, because i find them more comfortable to work from, but they do require more maneuvering. Once you are used to it you can be quite efficient though. The boom lifts always make me seasick, and have so many controls, one for each part of the boom, one to rotate, one to move the wheels, one to turn the wheels...gah!
