I am attempting to re-do the flooring in one of the two bouldering areas of my gym. The floor is currently made up of old blue gymnastics pads. I want to lay down a layer of foam and then cover it with carpet so that members can easily use the modular pads on top of the foam flooring.
I have had some difficulty ordering the proper type of foam for this project however. Foam distributors keep trying to sell me gymnastics flooring foam (which is much too hard for bouldering). I have discussed the idea of using a layer of open-cell foam covered by a thin layer of closed-cell foam, but this will be more complex and more expensive.
Our other bouldering area has one layer of dense foam underneath the carpet and I find that it works quite well. I have not been able to properly describe this foam over the telephone to a distributor, but this is what I am looking for.
Can anyone tell me the proper name for the type of foam that I am looking for? Or suggest other foam solutions? If anyone can recommend a good foam distributor/supplier in North America, that would be a great help as well.
Thank you very much,
