I was wondering how many gyms require Product Liability Insurance on holds that you order.

We sell climbing holds. The DRCC.
And just a handful of gyms out of many, request our latest proof of P.L.I.
I'd imagine most start up hold companies can't afford it or don't even think of having it.

Our gym has never required it in the past. But since the last CWA conference our GM now wants us to only buy holds from companies that have it. It's a shame because there are some sweet hold companies that have great shapes that we will no longer be able to get.

I don't know of any directly related injuries, but over the last 15 years I've seen several holds bust off the wall resulting in a near miss. And when they hit the nice new padded floors they can bounce in any direction fast!

PLC is not necessary for a gym to require. Your waivers should already cover broken and/or falling holds. "Inherently Dangerous" blah, blah, blah.
A suing patron or insurance company will go after the hold company if they feel that is necessary or possible but they will be going after the gym regardless.
PLC makes sense when a company is selling a product directly to the user, in a gym setting, it's being sold to the facilitator.
Please don't encourage the double insurance scam ;)

I'll second the "Inherently Dangerous" blah, blah, blah..." Also think of it this way if the climbing gym were to makes its own holds, the holds would be covered under its liability insurance!
