Does anyone have any ideas or methods for resurfacing old, shiny, frictionless holds? I've tried putting skateboard grip tape on key areas of the holds and it sort of works, but I'm looking for a longer lasting/less trashy method.
A customer brought up the possibility of heating up the hold (possibly with a heat gun) and poking it with a wire brush to revive some grittiness. Has anyone tried this?
Some of the guys from our gym took some of our old polished resin holds down to a "truck shop" and had them spray the truck-bed-liner stuff on them.
They seem to work alright at the moment, but time will if it will hold up or not.

Heating up the hold will not do much for you, they are made out of the wrong kind of plastic for that to work. Most resins and polyurethanes are a chemical reaction rather than a thermodynamic reaction. You could try it but my guess would be they would just burn instead of softening.
The only process that I could see working would be some type of media blasting to etch the surface, but most commonly used blasting medias are too fine to give a desirable texture. And the equipment to do it is not cheap.
