So. I am working freelance for one of the only wall builders in Europe who still uses pound in t-nuts. They are currently building a wall in North West Germany, and will be hammering close to a million t-nuts.

I know that I have seen a tool that fits onto a standard pneumatic driver, and is used for driving t-nuts, faster and more accurately than hammering them in. I have seen a video demonstration of the thing being used on the manufacturers website.

I cant for the life of me remember who made it, and after many hours of searching the internet, I am now asking you, fellow setters and builders. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

The T-Nut Nailer made by Cheap Holds. Don't know if they still make it. There's a link and a page on their current website but nothing on the page.

However...

good work Vince, for some reason I thought that it may have been from Franklin for some reason.

I think the Sigmatool stuff looks interesting as long as you don't need to buy "strips" of t nuts for the gun and you can just load them yourself.

Wicked. That is exactly what I was looking for. Apparently the tool is not in production at the moment, but I just talked to them, and they would be willing to make some for us. I think it would be worth it for the number of t-nuts being pounded....

"gay" I watched that whole video wondering when I would see the t-nut nailer, then realized...you fucker.

BTW, unless you are in fact gay (homosexual) or "gay" as in happy, your moniker is offensive and childish. "Gay" was an insult when I was 12.

This tool (the nailer ;) is awesome. I often hear the horror stories about how all of my gym's t-nuts where pounded by hand. Disturbing.

Where will that gym be located?

A million tnuts at 30 tnuts / square meter would be some 33.000 square meter

As I live close to the german border I might as well have a look at that gigantic climbing wall.

Oh, by the way most dutch wall manufacturers also use pound in TNuts. I think they are great because once damaged you can pop them out easily and thereby preventing any spinners.

2500 meters, plus Boulder Surface = a lot of t nuts. A million is an exaggeration, but it feels that way when they are all pounded in by hand. The reason a lot of wall builders don't use pound ins any more is because they damage the wood when pounded in, and are very seldom straight, and when you pop them out, and put another one in the same spot, the hole is already damaged from the first nut and the second is never as secure. They also don't have a very high pull through resistance, and after a number of years have pulled so far into the wood, that when they do cross thread or spin they are a pain to repair. The other t nuts that are fastened with screws are less stressful to install, have a much bigger footprint on the back side of the wall, are always straight when putting a hold on for the first time, and are much easier to repair. For small walls, pound ins are ok, but for big commercial walls it makes sense to spend a little extra to avoid problems down the road.

Well, don't keep me suspended. where is the gym going to be!

I personally only have good experiences with pound ins. Sure, they must be applied straight, and the wood must be strong enough to withstand not only the norm but also the repeated beating from power tools.

I think that when the pound in has become a bit damaged it is a great benefit that you can just push it out so that a dodo will not create a spinner.

It does help that in the Netherlands we have a lot of inserts so if there is a pound in missing. Remove a insert. Apply a new pound in using your arm from the front of the wall and attach a hold.

Mülheim. Its going to be another Neoliet wall. It should be opening early next year. Are you close to Eindhoven? Their main wall is there if I'm not mistaken.

I already knew that Erik was building his fifth wall in mulheim. that it was going to be 2500 m2 I didn't know.

In fact it is only a good 1 hour drive by car from my home town Enschede.

I know this is an old forum but . . .

Any chance you ever got to use that T-nut nailer from cheapholds.com? Our gym is thinking about trying one out and I'd love to hear how you liked it.
