This is a set that Im physc'd about, what do you guys think about it?

The slot is just that, a slot. These holds all have the exact same template when viewed from underneath. Therefore I made each hold a little different. The climber will have to climb up to the hold and then search the hold to find out whether or not it has a sinker slot at the back or not. I thought it was a great idea for comp setting.

Donovan, make sure that those slots don't have sharp edges! If they're not already, I'd consider rounding them off significantly.
Well, from the position of the next hold almost everybody will be able to tell wether or not there is a big jug around the back or not.
Similair holds are cool but i would make them more similair. i.e. a flat hold and the other one slightly better, not a huge Jug.

The corners of the slot are well rounded off, about 1/4". I learnt from an old voodoo hold that has a deep one handed slot. We once used it as a side pull and a member got his hand stuck in it. I think the twisting of the fingers when he was moving downward is what mad them catch in the hold.
And the holds are placed on the floor as though the floor were the wall. In other words Herman you're looking at the tops of the holds. From underneath you can see the flat edges that we're seeing.

I got mine from a company called American Micro Industries. They make foam amoung many other things. Be warned they expect you to put down a lot of cash. The reason is that they usually only sell 8ft by 4ft sheets of the stuff and thats huge. Basically I got them to cut me a block and because of the size of my order they were willing to do business. This is not usually however. Therefore I saved some cash over a period of 4months in order to achieve this.
There may be other ways of going about this, however I wanted the best and was willing to sacrifice for it.

kinda like the coreshots from contact...I would develope the crooves more so they play a role in the actual gripping, make some good spots and then make some bad spots, looks awesome!
Dave, thanks for the input, I'll have to go and look at what Contacts doing... havent seen their site in a while.
Nevertheless as a shaper I am more inclined to keep things simple yet interesting. Just as you may read in another forum that is currently running on this site that I started, its kind of unanimous that most setters prefer (not all the time, but mostly) a hold to have no more than one or two functions. As a setter myself, I posted that forum because I wanted to see if my way of thinking was inline with the rest of the community, which seems to be the case.

Donovan... I'm not a shaper or a professional setter so take this for what it's worth.
On those 4 pyramid shapes it looks like the profile of each of the 4 sides of a single hold is pretty much the same. So regardless of its orientation it will be basically the same (maybe the photo is deceiving in that regard). I'd think it would be helpful for each of the sides to have a slightly different profile so that the difficulty of the problem could be tweaked by rotating the hold. I don't think that would break the "rule" of a hold having only one or two functions.
I do like the look of those rounded slopers, they look pretty versatile.
Lachelt, you dont have to be anything to have an opinion(!) and yes for what its worth its a great point that you make.
I can tell you that each hold is designed with the same/similar side on purpose due to the fact that once you begin rotating a hold to find an optimal position, if that "good" side should come anywhere near useful, you can bet your bottom dollar that climbers will make sure to use that "good" side no matter how you set it.
An example of this is any jug that has crimpers on the other side of the hold. Project Holds had a hold like this and anytime I used that hold, everyone would use it like an undercling instead of a crimper.
However this is food for thought!

I would like to see those slopers in action. Those look comfortable and versitile, which is probably my biggest thing. I don't want climbers to be turned off by my routes because they look at the holds and think 'ouch'. How big are those slopers? Would you be able to fit your entire hand around them to use them like a pinch? From what I see the wider hold in the back right looks awesome for some overhanging toughness. I think the plateaus are a good idea, however, would they be more friendly and versitile if the ridge was less aggressive? Thanks for sharing the picutes!
