hi people
after early spring cleaning at the gym. I was wondering how other gyms organize their storage room for climbing holds. we are separating by brand due to space and simplicity, since we don't set routes by color...
we do not have enough holds to sort, but if we did i would do it by hold type.
big slopers, single hand slopers, incut crimps, bad crimps, mini jugs, jugs, big jugs.... it would be so easy to find stuff with stuff so broken down.
I would love that!
Firstly, we used large bread trays to prevent holds breaking in tubs plus it made holds easy to sort through.
We would separate holds by type (pinch, positive, sloper, jib, roof jugs, jumbo/XX Large).
The real problem with organizing holds is getting people to: A) Put holds in the right spot after washing...or B)Cleaning up after setting and putting unused holds away properly.
I admire the spring cleaning effort...good luck.
We use several large tubs but unfortunately the holds are all mixed up at the moment. Typically, I would love to see them all separated by type. We just set a comp this past weekend and I am now moving towards making this happen. The problem with the large tubs is that its hard to dig to the bottom and see what holds are buried down there.
For my home wall, I use small/medium sized stackable crates and separate by hold maker. I really like this approach since you can easily stack all the crates in one section and at quick glance, you can see which crates contain which holds. I find it to be less chaotic then having several large tubs filled with random holds.
Good luck with your spring cleaning!
Ps. If you happen to find "The Beast" from Pusher while doing your cleaning, ill gladly buy it or trade other holds for it! (sorry, just on a quest to find this hold!)
We store our holds in tubs and sort them according to shape. This way if you are looking for a small edge or medium pinch, it's quick and easy. To alleviate the issue of people putting crimps in the jug bin I'm even thinking of going as far as marking the back of the holds. For example, write "s.p." on a small pinch. I'm hoping this way, even a monkey will be able to sort holds into the appropriate bins.
hopefully your monkeys are smarter then my monkeys. I cant even get mine to keep clean holds and dirty holds separated!! lol
"If you pay peanuts, you're going to get monkeys!" LOL
