I don't see anyone commenting on the recent UBC competition in Central Park. I think it is a big step for climbing to reach beyond the climbing community, to the public, and show them what climbing and bouldering are. If a tour of comps like that were to cross the country and put on outdoor shows in a few major cities the number of people who are aware of climbing and may participate would surely grow. (for better or worse)

Details about the setting and opinions about NE2C are sure to vary but let's give credit where it's due. Possibly the most important climbing competition in terms of exposure?

I agree as far as the exposure goes. The crowd looked enormous, which was awesome. The field of competitors was a bit lacking, but it was going on the same weekend as the World Cup in Barcelona so that put us down a few of our strongest american competitors. The Teva games is a great location and event to pair the U.S. stop on the bouldering World Cup circuit, but NYC would be killer. I imagine it might have more of an international draw as well.??

What is more exciting to me is the fact that some strong american climbers are competing more on an international level. I hope this is a trend that continues.

Major competitions get very little discussion around here, but lets give it a try..

Congrats to NE2C for putting on a truly great event. The entire build up to the comp must have taken months and months to prepare for and get all the approved permits and approval. Having the vision to host this comp in NYC's central park is in itself very inspiring, It shows ne2c's passion, love and belief that our sport is capable of holding the public spotlight as much as other "extreme" sports. While I believe this past World Cup in Vail still holds the title of the biggest and most spectated climbing competition ever, this was definitly a close second and hopfully time will show that it was indeed the most important in terms of exposure.
