So.... it seems that most gyms set more easy routes than hard which can mean alot of jugs, you know the 5.6 to 5.8 range under the auto-belays (if you have them). The question is what jugs are the best for these routes and why. What makes a jug, for lack of a better term, good or bad on near vertical terrain for you novice or fitness oriented customers?
What jugs are best??????

Comfort, I'll say it again... Comfort... one more time... Comfort!!!
If your customers complain about having sore hands at the end of an evening and they have only been climbing sevens, eights and nines, then you need to find holds that allow them to climb continuously without harm.
Which jugs are those, you ask? Well that is for you to determine cause everyone will tell you different!

The idea was to discuss which ones you think are best, all opinions accepted.

atomik new dimple jugs are nice. some of the bigger climb it shapes. e grips jax jugs i think they are. voodoo jugs are good. teknik mini jugs are awesome

Friction Veins are amazing, and EVERYTHING Teknik make. There is not a single hold that is uncomfy and they have a nice light texture which is awesome for newer climbers!

we just got a set of soill steriles, and i LOVE them. i usually don't like soill jugs, but these are some of the best i've used.

is it just me or do those sterile jugs look like direct rip offs of some of the rock candy jug sets. i have not held them personally but they sure do look like it to me on the web site. kind of indicative of some of the lack of originality going around these days...

Think more about ergonomics e.g. how does it fit the hand? Thinking about that will make the holds more comfortable. Also, thinking about how and where a hold is most likely to be used is important, an ergonomic hold is good on steep terrain as well and dead vertical. Slab is another story.

I have to say, for comfort, I havent seen ANYTHING match egrips sets. From the material used, not too textury, so minimizes plastic burn, but excelent profiles around the lip, something you can yard on all day without feeling the pain. Some aren't so comfy, such as the drop art jugs, which are a narrower profile, but just about everything we have used have been excelent for jug hauls.
We have a bunch of old metolius jugs we use for our "kid ladders" mostly because they are old, but still very functional, and leaves us our nicer, newer, brighter jugs for easy routes and such.
